                    Junior Master Gardener Day Camp
p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; } Join Davie County 4-H and the Master Gardener Volunteers for Junior Master Gardener Day Camp the week of June 27 through July 1 at the Farmington Community Center. The camp is open to youth in grades third through fifth, and there are still a few slots available. Junior Master Gardener (JMG) is a national 4-H curriculum that offers horticultural and environmental education for kids through a variety of fun and creative activities. The camp fee is $75 and due at the time of registration.

JMG Campers learn about plants, nature, and the environment by participating in fun and educational activities, projects, and trips. Campers begin and end each day at a central location, but venture to various destinations throughout the week. A graduation luncheon is held at noon on Friday, so parents can get a glimpse of their child’s experiences from the week. The camp meets at the Farmington Community from 8:00am to 3:00pm each day, except Friday, which ends following the graduation luncheon.

This year campers will visit a tomato farm and then make their very own salsa. A quarry tour, fishing trip and farmer’s market expedition are planned. A beekeeper and observation hive will be on hand for campers to learn about honeybees, pollination and beekeeping. A few of the week’s craft projects include stepping stones, tie-dyed shirts, clay bugs and bird feeders. Campers will also learn about plant propagation and take their own cuttings; learn about insects and how to use microscopes; and learn more about plants and nature.

For more information or to enroll your child, contact North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Davie County Center, at 753-6100. The Davie Extension Center is located at 180 South Main Street in Downtown Mocksville.
